In 1994 we started a test at the INTERSchutz fire protection fair in Hanover. As the "International Fire Brigade Badge", we introduced textiles with a red stripe to Germany for the first time. We have always liked the French firefighters. So we thought it was something for German firefighters. Then not the stick "SAPEUR-POMPIER" but just "FIRE DEPARTMENT". The demand at the fair was huge, the original goods from France (approved by the French Ministry of the Interior as fire fighting clothing) were sold out in no time. That was when the idea to found the company was born.
In 1995 more and more customer orders came in. At home everything was packed up on the living room table. We got the boxes from the grocery stores, which were ready to take away. They wanted to get rid of them, we could use them again for shipping. This year we offered fire service trips to the New York fire service for the first time under the company name "Paradise Travel" as a sister company. We were Germany's first fire brigade tour operator to the FDNY - Fire Dept. City of New York. Here, too, the target group were firefighters.
1996 Little by little we won more customers with "Feuerwehrabzeichen International" and thus created a few jobs. Orders came by postcard or letter and everything had to be entered into the EDP by hand. That has of course changed, but we still have nice employees who take care of the order processing and always have an open ear for our customers.
Packaging recycling: We got a box shredding machine to shred the supplier boxes, which were all larger than our shipping boxes, in order to get filler material. As a result, the cardboard boxes were used twice in an environmentally friendly way.
1997 That year we offered trips to the Honolulu Fire Dept for the first time. at. We were Germany's first fire brigade tour operator to Hawaii.
1998 The product range had become so extensive that we had to move from a small rented basement apartment to a small hall. Here we could expand and get decent shelves. Since we didn't just offer fire department badges, we changed our name to “fire department dispatch”. The name reflected the content of our company. Now the time of the internet began. When the company was founded, that didn't exist yet, neither webshops nor Facebook. Hard to believe, Marc Zuckerberg was only 10 years old at the time ...
In 2000 there was a little trouble with the company name, because we naturally strived for the Internet and secured the domain "feuerwehrversand. Com" without realizing that a friendly other company, trading as "Versandhaus des Deutschen Feuerwehrverband e.V." "feuerwehrversand.de" had itself protected. The little dispute ended in the district court and finally we thought, now we are going to get going, like in Formula 1 and secure and the domain "feuer1.de" short and sweet and quick, like the fire brigade. The company name was changed to "Feuerwehr Versand Friesenheim" so that there is no longer any confusion (it still happens from time to time) and we immediately registered in the commercial register and are now e.K. = "registered merchant".
In 2001 the shock for all of us when, while working in the media, we saw the two towers collapse in New York City. With the travel company we visited the local fire department three weeks later with a tour group consisting of German fire fighters, attended funerals of FDNY fire fighters in New York City, hugged the comrades there and tried to console them. A terrible life event.
The first edition of the "Original German Fire Brigade Women's Calendar" was more pleasing. A product from our company. The idea came from Florida, where such a calendar had been around for a long time. So why not offer something like this in Germany with real firefighters. This calendar is still around today and will continue to be ...
Packaging offensive: We found a new source for our filling material. The articles have to be securely packaged for transport. We no longer shredded the old cardboard boxes, but got the leftovers on the large paper rolls that are used in printing shops. This way, the printing works got rid of their unusable leftovers and we got top filling material. To this day we do not use any plastic air cushions as filling material. Sustainable and natural raw materials.
